I Vow to Keep Trying: A Birthday Reflection

It was my birthday yesterday. Even though I consider myself an extrovert and I do love a good party, all I ever really want to do on my birthday is have some alone time. Time without responsibilities, time to be nostalgic, time to reflect on the past year of being alive.

And what a year it’s been. Ten days after my last birthday, COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic. A few days later, the San Francisco Bay Area, where I live, became the first region in the US to order people to shelter in place. You know the rest. And the fact that the pandemic was only one storyline in a harrowing plot that unfolded over the past 12 months made this an especially difficult year to reflect on.
